2012 Fills A Hole In The Film Universe

"2012" is the film that I've been waiting for years. It fulfills a promise made to me 14 years ago by film auteur Kevin Costner. And it fills a giant blank space in the film universe. IT IS THE LONG AWAITED PREQUEL TO WATERWORLD.

At the end of "2012" the human race is on a whole bunch of boats, or arcs, floating in the ocean. That's it, that's how it ends, however I'm told after the credits Dennis Hopper shows up to show how the renegade smokers are born. Also, a film attendent took a break from keeping the "New Moon" hordes at bay and told me that The Mariner, aka Coster is clearly visible in the background of many scenes.

This is earth shattering news people, Waterworld is a forgotten classic that was way ahead of it's time. Rumor has it that Al Gore hosts midnight screenings of on the harvest moon of the third month of each year. So do yourself a favor, go see 2012, and then go rent Waterworld, I promise you, you'll that convenient or not, you'll find some truth there.

Is it lame to be excited for Monsters Vs Aliens

At one point in my life I had a choice between "No Country For Old Men" and "Beowulf" in 3D. I know "No Country" is amazing and has some pretty serious action, but I just could not say no to that whole "I am ripper, I am slasher, teeth in the night, I'm the ultimate badass" speech. So, friendo I saw Grendel get owned in 3D. The movie kind of sucked, but the 3D was exciting and fresh. And now I see this "Monsters Vs. Aliens" trailer and I can't help but feel jazzed up.

I mean, there are some good laughs in the trailer, are they stupid laughs, yeah, but most laughs are stupid. But let us not forget that Dreamworks Animation, the studio, making this film brought us "Shrek" and "Kung Fu Panda," two awesome animated features.

People who whine about 3D glasses need to relax. Millions of people wear glasses every day, and get along with life just fine. So what is the problem with wearing coold "Back to the Future part 2" shades for 2 hours so you can marvel at the silver screen.

Could it suck? Yeah it could, but if this film get's one good review, I'll be there opening day.

Cheeky Bulls, Rovers, and Ladies: Welcome to Australia

Grandmas are the primary audience for the new film "Australia." For it is a film so old fashioned, so romantic, and so epic it would fit in in the giant epics of the past. Oh I did I mention that it's a great ride.

A great ride, that's my primary goal when going to a movie like this. Sure I like this super emotional, super heady, super oh-man-that-was-so-depressing-I-can't-eat-a-sandwhich-without-crying emotional (this is what happens when I see any
Clint Eastwood directed film).

Yet Australia is about as non-depressing as you can get. It's pure popcorn, it's popcorn covered in so much butter the bag is greasy goodness. It is non-stop traditional moviemaking and storytelling. Heroic cowboys, fish-out-of-water scenarios with beautiful ladies, sweeping vistas, nefarious villains, and adorable kids. Everyone has a happy ending (except the bad guys of course).

Too often we think of "ride" or entertaining movies as movies where
robots engage in battle royales, superheros shoot white stuff out their hands, or landmarks get destroyed. Australia is that ride movie, however it's just rolls along like a cattle stampede, yet instead of a cattle stampede, it's more a old fashioned Grandma stampede. And they're all rolling to theatre.
